While Quickly Test UTI Test 5V® - Urine Test Strips are designed for professional use by medical practitioners, they are also ideal for home testing. To support both, we include a clear, easy-to-follow guide for non-technical users, along with the full medical information leaflet for professionals.
Full instructions are provided inside the box.
Urine test strips offer a fast and simple way to check the condition of your urine. For a full interpretation of the results, please consult your doctor or urologist.
- Urinate into a clean container.
- Remove one urine test strip and immediately close the tub tightly. Dip the strip into the urine for 2 seconds. Tap it gently on the side of the container to remove excess liquid. Excess urine between the pads may invalidate results.
- Observe the reagent patches. After 20–30 seconds, check the pH (second from the bottom).
- If the reagent turns orange, your urine is too acidic.
- If it turns deep green, your urine is too alkaline.
- Check the Protein pad (middle). A greenish or turquoise colour indicates protein. The darker it is, the more protein is present. This may suggest kidney involvement in an infection. See your doctor for advice.
- Check for Blood (bottom pad). Any green colour means blood may be present. If the pad turns deep green within 60 seconds, blood is more likely present. However, many factors can cause this result, so consult your doctor.
- Check Nitrites (second from top). Nitrites form when bacteria break down nitrates, so a pink colour suggests bacteria. Finally, check Leukocytes (top pad). Any pink colour within 2 minutes suggests inflammation and possibly bacteria.
You can adjust urine pH through diet. See our guide on making urine more alkaline or speak with a dietician.
The stronger the colour within the indicated time frames, the greater the likelihood of bacterial presence. To confirm bacterial strains, kidney involvement, or to fully interpret the results, consult a doctor or medical professional.
Other things to consider
Monitoring urine health can provide useful insights, but it does not give the full picture. UTI Test 5V® can reliably show if infection is present, but it cannot identify the specific bacteria causing symptoms. If natural approaches do not resolve the infection, consider a urine culture at a qualified clinic.
Urine Test Benefits
- Simple home test with 50 strips per pack, allowing repeated testing.
- Quickly checks urine pH. A pH of 7.5 to 8 (alkaline) can slow bacterial growth and may help reduce infections. Traditionally, lemon barley water was used to support this effect.
- Tests for Blood, Leukocytes, Protein, and Nitrites. Blood and Leukocytes indicate inflammation or infection; Protein may suggest kidney involvement; Nitrites generally appear only when bacteria are present.
- Medical-level reliability.
- Clear instructions for home users.
- A trusted diagnostic aid used by Sweet Cures’ customers for many years. Thousands of kits sold with consistently excellent feedback for ease of use and effectiveness compared to other brands. Usually delivered next day.
- Backed by customer support with over 10 years of expertise.
Urine Test Principles and Limitations
Leukocytes: Detects granulocyte esterases, which react to produce a violet dye. Positive results may occur even without visible cells if leukocytes have broken down. False results can be affected by contamination, high glucose, certain medications, or vaginal discharge.
Nitrites: Based on Griess’s test. Any pink colour indicates a positive result. A negative result does not rule out infection, as not all bacteria produce nitrites. Other factors such as short bladder retention time or low dietary nitrate can also affect results. High levels of vitamin C may cause false negatives.
Protein: Detects albumin based on a pH indicator. High pH or contamination from disinfectants may cause false positives.
pH: Uses a mixed indicator showing clear changes between pH 5 and pH 8.5. Repeated testing may be needed to establish a trend. Unstable pH may indicate infection.
Blood: Detects haemoglobin and myoglobin. Sensitive to even small amounts, but results can be influenced by menstruation, contamination, infection, or high vitamin C intake.
Sensitivity and Range
Sensitivity depends on the presence or absence of interfering substances.
Item | Sensitivity | Range |
---|---|---|
Leukocytes | 15–40 cells/µL granulocyte | Negative–500 cells/µL |
Nitrite | 13–22 µmol/L | Negative–Positive |
Protein | 0.10–0.15 g/L albumin | Negative–5.0 g/L |
pH | 0.5 pH unit | pH 5.0–8.5 |
Blood | 0.15–0.6 mg/L haemoglobin | Negative–200 cells/µL |
Reagent Composition
Based on dry weight per 100 strips:
- Leukocytes: indoxyl ester 1.4 mg, diazonium salt 0.7 mg
- Nitrite: sulfanilamide 0.65 mg, N-(naphthyl)-ethylenediammonium dihydrochloride 0.45 mg
- Protein: tetrabromphenol blue 0.36 mg
- pH: methyl red 0.06 mg, bromthymol blue 1.3 mg
- Blood: cumene hydroperoxide 35.2 mg, 3,3',5,5'-Tetramethylbenzidine 15.0 mg
Precautions
- Handling: Use a clean container. Avoid residues of strong disinfectants. Do not add preservatives.
- Operation: Dip for 2 seconds only. Avoid shaking the strip.
- Specimen Collection: Test urine promptly. If not tested within one hour, refrigerate and return to room temperature before use. Do not centrifuge.
Test Procedure
- Remove one strip at a time and close the tub tightly.
- Dip into fresh, well-mixed urine. Remove immediately.
- Tap against container rim to remove excess and blot on absorbent paper. Avoid cross-contamination of pads.
- Compare pads to the colour chart at the times specified. Timing is critical.
- Record results by direct colour comparison.
Note: Read results within 1–2 minutes. Changes after 2 minutes are not valid.
Quality Control
Check strip performance against known positive and negative samples after every 25 strips or when using a new batch. Users should establish their own performance standards.
Results
Compare against the colour chart printed on the tub. Colours represent nominal values; slight variations are normal.
Handling Care
Improper storage may affect results. Bring strips to room temperature before use. Do not use strips that are discoloured, deteriorated, or contaminated.
Please Note
Always consider test results in combination with other medical findings. Some drugs and high vitamin C intake can affect accuracy. If unsure, repeat the test or consult a doctor.
Storage and Stability
Store at 2°C–30°C, away from humidity, sunlight, and heat. Keep strips in the original tub with desiccants. Use within three months of opening. Do not use after expiry date.
